Kalamunda Districts: The foothold for hockey in the foothills!

The 2010 season is fast approaching, and Kalamunda is looking for new players:

  • With the success of our Hills womens teams, there's a good chance of adding a third team into the Hills (Sunday) competition.

  • We ALWAYS want more junior players, from HookIn2Hockey (under 8s), through to our 11/12 side (Premiers in 2009).  Last season we grew to two J5/6 teams (the old under 11s), and adding another junior side is a major goal - skill level and experience is not a problem (all that needs is time).

  • Our mens sides had a tough year in 2009, but we still have two turf and one grass side planned for very competitive grades.  For players 18-39, we will have a grade that suits your needs.

  • Our Mens Over 40s won Division 2 (having won Division 3 in 2008) and are heading up to Division 1.  Spots in this side are highly prized, with most of the side training regularly.  If there is enough interest, a 2nd Over 40s side could be an option.  We also have Over 50s (09 Minor Premiers in Div 2) and 55s, and "new" blood is always welcome.

For more details, go to our CONTACTS page to fine the right person to speak to - information will also be placed here as it comes available.

Please note: There's an over-concentration of hockey in the western/central suburbs, and these clubs just get bigger.  Our club exists to make sure hockey keeps a presence in the east, and so locals have option to play and train close to home.  The number of eastern-suburb clubs has shrunk over the last few decades - that's not good for hockey, but we need local support to make sure our club is sustainable for the future.

Kalamunda's hockey program at Dawson Park Primary

Schools program. Kalamunda is running an introduction to hockey for kids at Dawson Park Primary (Forrestfield) over 7 weeks. We have about 84 kids spread over 4 classes in year 5,6 and 7. Coaching is Monday and Tuesday 9-10 am, and 10-11am. The school's aim is for the kids to be able to play a full game of hockey in the Primary Schools competition in June.

Just Hockey have sponsored this program, with the donation of 40 sticks, 3 dozen balls, 2 colours of cones and 15 bids in 2 colours, and this will allow us to consider similar programs in the years to come. Most of the coaching is being done by Tricia and Sara Lovell, with others helping on occasions - if any other club members are interested and available on those days, please let us know. It already looks as if this program will boost of J5/6 numbers!

"Just Hockey" sponsorship!

The club has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Just Hockey for 2009-2011 that will see benefits delivered to both the club and our members (players and coaches, senior and junior). Part of this is an automatic 10% discount for our members, so if you go there for your next equipment purchase, don't forget to mention you are from Kalamunda.

Just Hockey are at 129 Burswood Rd,  Burswood and you can find much of their catalogue through their website. We encourage all members to support them as our sponsor, and at least check-out what they have to offer when next buying hockey gear.

Healthy Club Policy

As part of our Healthways sponsorship in 2008, the club has initiated an official Healthy Club Policy, and we ask that all members be aware of the commitments made within it.  CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE HEALTHY CLUB POLICY.

Match reporting

HockeyWA requires that each team enters details on HockeyNet each week, and home teams are required to text in results within an hour of their game.  We have prepared a document that outlines these requirements (team managers should have a HockeyNet password).  CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD MATCH REPORTING PROCEDURES.
